20 years with the same line up, now that must be a record? How can one recap that? Place that against what has happened to the world in the last 20 years and that gives you a sense of this phenomena. Each world event no doubt having been discussed in Iain's sitting room of a Wednesday night, in between the lost chords of songs played for fun and never to be performed again. Well now how can a live band give back a little thank you, to all who have suffered over the years and still came back to dance some more. "I know!" a gig! A gig fitting the 20 years after! hee hee One they will play a host of songs from their various influences over this double decade. For this we need some ideas, which venue? new covers? old big ted's home grown favourites (if anyone can remember them?).

GIG REVIEW

September 27th - 2003 ABC

As usual the audience were there to be entertained and that they were!  Listening to the music as if the were at a concert taking in the music so the first half only had them dancing in their seats. This was good enough to lift the atmosphere and the second half it was dancing as usual !

The sound was good and that makes a big difference and as soon as the band started it was loud, they meant business! The old classics never sounded so good and fresh, as if the break in the gigs had revitalised them.

The song of the night? It must have been Killiecrankie, for it's vigour and audience excitement! A competition between the audience and the band as to who could jump the highest made the song come alive!

Other songs to note on the long list of songs were, The breakneck speed of "Route 66" (sorry Len - but I liked the heavy metal solo!). How blue could you get, the Paul Weller song - You do something to me, (moody and bluesy). Brown eyed girl was as sexy as ever and Mustang Sally had so many tight shades and breaks it was precision itself.

It wouldn't be right if I didn't mention Lens emotional "King for a Day " rendition, after the end of the gig, when only a few drunk stragglers still lined the bar, with Alex on acoustic and the rest f the band on backing vocals on the other mike (no drums), It made someone's night ! ( if not the bands ;)

GIG REVIEW

Abronhill Bowling Club (20th Jan 2001)

The gig hit the local rag, twice in the one edition, even though one  was in the sports section. A first for the Big Ted's!

The gig itself must rate as one of the best, not only were the band up for it, but the crowd  were so friendly and receptive that the gig left a buzz with the band after a long Christmas break. Following this gig the band have had a mad rush of bookings and can only go from strength to strength.

GIG REVIEW

August 31st  - "TheClub" Newarthill

This is an excellent venue for bands, a high semi-circle stage, good dance floor and raised seating level.

The gig itself consisted of acoustic set for one of the three bands, the second being a 3 piece heavy, Oasis type set up. This helped by getting the sound right for the Big Ted's to come on.  (someone out there has a vidoe tape of it, please send us a copy! thanks!) .  The rest of the gig is a blur now but I know it was an excellent one, ( and Steven how many beer mats can you flip now, hee hee!)

Palacerigg Golf Club  (10th Aug 2002)

The Talisman MCC "Rock Night"

The gig itself was very good,! A bikers club rock night, lot's of leathers and petunia oil! LOL . It was good to be able to play nice and loud for a change, we sound better that way, and heavier! ( we manage to keep up with the drummer, (volume wise). The band enjoyed it and felt relaxed, which helped with the music, long jam sessions in the middle of songs, (see we're not a club band hee hee. ) Songs of note were, Hoochie Coochie Man (Muddy Waters), Teenage Kicks (The Undertones), 500 miles (The Proclaimers), Killiecrankie,  ( Rabbie Burns, hee hee!)  and many many more! The band started at 10pm after a few drinks had been consumed by the audience and the sounds from the PA had created the right atmosphere for the band to start. Soon the dance floor was filled again. :) The set lasted until well past 1:00am with a half hour break!

Twa Corbies Cumbernauld (3rd Feb 2001)

Not one of the usual Twa Corbies gigs. With the place packed to see Tommy Sheridan and those that would praise the name Tommy Sheridan, the corbies was jumpin'. After Tommy said his piece , (most professionally done I might add) the band played loud  and tight,  riding high on the Bowling club gig, and it was well rewarded in response from the audience.

GIG REVIEW

The Big Ted's Ferry Christmas Parties (20th , 21st & 23rd December 2002)

Yes, 3 gigs at the Ferry within 4 days, it was a challenge of stamina and endurance, but as the first night's party revellers started dancing with the Christmas atmosphere we knew we could see it through. The placed was mobbed Friday and Saturday, and with the band playing across the Ferry, this made it even more so.

Fast and furious song after song they danced.  500 miles, Killiecrankie and Sit down going down especially well, but nothing could prepare us for 300 people facing you and doing the Time Warp with such timing and with many a bonny lass doing the pelvic thrusts we may have played a few bum note or two! hee hee

The Monday night was a lot quieter, with the stage moved to the aft end of the ferry, the long dance floor lacked the atmosphere of the other two nights, but it was nice to have a good bit more room on stage.

Other than the photo's taken there were a few dodgy recordings made and you may just see a few appearing on the web site like the Xmas medley or hound dog?? (for posterity only you understand). Anyone who was at the gigs, post a message and tell us what you thought

HISTORY

The Renfrew Ferry ( Near Jamaica Bridge Glasgow)

The Renfrew to Yoker ferry crossings is one of the few remaining ferry points for passengers wishing to cross the Clyde and has been since since 1782.

The Renfrew Ferry

GIG REVIEW

Go to 2001 gig!

Big Ted's Renfrew Ferry (24th June 2000)

 Renfrew Ferry with Kingstone Bridge

What a night! The 2K rig  was loud and clear, the venue was brilliant, , and  everybody danced all night long!  What more could you ask for e'h? Then the  sunlight sank behind the City of Glasgow and shone its last golden rays along the almost glass like waters of the river Clyde. Looking "doon the water" to the fine old Jamaican bridge. The band started with their usual signature tune - "Built for comfort" followed by a fine rendition of "In my life" with Alex on acoustic. The band went on to play an hour long first "warm up set" showing their wide range of songs and musical capabilities and benefiting from the big sound system.

After some disco and an extremely tasty buffet the band went back on stage! The sun was gone and only the neon lights of the nearby clubs on the river shone across the water directly in to the water level bay windows and large dome glass roof and . "Did anyone see the England V Romania game!" cried Iain. "Brilliant!" and the crowd cheered in agreement, and from the first few bars of the 1998 Scottish World cup anthem, 500 miles,  the place erupted,  and then the Ted's swung 180 degrees into a collection of well known  Scottish traditional songs had the crowd reeling and jigging! The set went on from strength to strength with classic Big Ted's style classic songs, such as Mustang Sally,  Brown Eyed girl, No more heroes, Can't get enough of your love and Get it on. On the Last number of the night Alan continued on with his now 5 string guitar,  together with the rest of the Ted's to end the gig with an emotional Stand by me as the neon lights danced across the waters.

An excellent venue with an excellent stage, PA and lights. The PARTY are back!

GIG REVIEW

Moodiesburn House bar  (just off the A80 Moodiesburn )

(September 28th  2001)

Another good Gig at the Moodiesburn bar, this is turning out to be an extremely good pub gig, not for the faint at heart tho' as the band feel comfortable with a good sound and volume. It's also nice to see some regular faces  such as Jemima, Cindy, Barbie and Tiny-Tears .

Good Pub Venue and friendly atmosphere, Big Ted's returned to this small Pub for the beer money, so you'll have a damn good time!
